Intel is looking for an Architecture Research Scientist.

Job duties and responsibilities:

  • Initiates the design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects to fuel growth in Intel’s general purpose processor compute architecture and design.
  • Applies scientific research principles and concepts to potential inventions and products in CPU development, creating the vision and value proposition in aspects such as powerefficient performance and/or areaefficient performance, aligning technology strategy within the constraints of Intel product architecture/design, and driving fastpaced research and development to meet timelines.
  • Performs research to define boundaries, create proofofconcepts, or prototype new ideas.
  • Researches and develops solutions for Intel’s next generation general purpose processor (CPU) architectures, including instruction set architecture (ISA) extensions for important or emerging applications, microarchitecture research, and development in areas such as instruction delivery, branch prediction and predication, data/code prefetching, interconnects, cache hierarchies, and memory controllers.
  • Builds and uses benchmarks to analyze performance on Intel CPUs and performs bottleneck analysis. Invents architecture and microarchitecture techniques and models, tunes them through highfidelity performance and power simulations, and extends their value on the broad universe of generalpurpose computing applications of relevance to Intel business.
  • Researches and develops system software and compiler support codesigned with the processor architecture and microarchitecture that allows CPU hardware inventions to be exploited at the system level to benefit realworld singlethread and multithreaded applications.
  • Researches technological trends, enables partnership and collaboration among industry, academia, standards bodies, product, and other technical groups to address important technology and customer issues, and finds innovative solutions to difficult problems for midterm or longterm time frames.
  • Influences external research, disseminates results, and raises the profile of conducted research through scientific publications, patents, talks, and Intel internal or external outreach efforts.
  • Works with CPU design teams to determine product requirements and the feasibility of new technology adoption and integration.
  • Recommends features and influences future roadmap for CPUs, focusing on high performance solutions.

Qualifications required:

  • Candidates must have a PhD or advanced MS in EE/CS from a top University.
  • Research experience is highly desired either in graduate school or in the industry.
  • Technical Expertise (one or more):
    • Strong software expertise in C++/Perl/Python and experience in cycle-accurate (micro)architecture simulators and/or system software (compilers, runtimes, OS)
    • Expertise in VLSI design and/or accelerator-based (micro)architecture
    • Expertise in emerging AI/Cloud workloads characterization and workload-driven architecture
