Position overview:
Eaton is in the process of interviewing candidates for the role of Associate Engineer.
Key responsibilities:
- Execute various projects and assignments as directed by the team leader or engineering manager. Prepare and update engineering documentation, including detailed drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, and component specifications to facilitate the design, development, and production of Conveyance products.
- Undertake specific engineering tasks related to product design and testing, and assist in the preparation of specifications under the mentorship of a senior engineer or team lead.
- Focus on or take ownership of a specific design module within a larger mechanical system. Independently develop design concepts and maintain effective communication with team members and other departments.
- Comply with design standards and procedures that govern product design methods, documentation, and data management for the relevant business group. Emphasis is placed on thorough documentation, monitoring, and testing.
- Participate in the implementation of ACES and other relevant standards to ensure that designs meet established requirements. Understand, execute, and adhere to Eaton’s product launch protocols.
- Enhance proficiency in various CAD tools, focusing on design modules specific to typical component requirements, such as sheet metal, cabling, solid modeling, and harness design. Provide CAD support to customers using designated software and document control systems.
- Develop fully parametric designs for various components by applying component design methodologies, DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles, along with various drafting standards. Conduct initial quality assessments to verify that created drawings and concepts align with Eaton’s and customer expectations.
- Engage in ideation and rapid block modeling for design concepts, suggesting technical changes or modifications as necessary.
- Apply appropriate GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis to create detailed designs in line with established component design methodologies.
- Utilize DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) concepts and tools, including PDSC (Product Development Stage Gate), P-Diagram, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), Risk Management, and DVPR (Design Verification Plan and Report) for new product development and enhancements to existing products.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 0 to 3 years of relevant engineering or product design experience.
Desired skills:
- Proficient in one or more CAD tools, preferably CATIA, and familiarity with PLM tools.
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence in project execution.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of DFSS tools, such as FMEA, FMECA, and Monte Carlo Analysis.
- Innovative and creative thinker.
