Job description:
CDM Smith is conducting an interview for the post of Mechanical Engineer 1.
Under direct supervision, creates basic engineering designs including: HVAC systems master planning & studies; HVAC & Plumbing systems; Mechanical systems (co-generation); sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings; etc.. Develops white papers and technical documentation to support the firm’s Total Knowledge Management (TKM).
Job duties and responsibilities:
Engineering Design/Development:
Under direct supervision, creates engineering designs including: HVAC systems master planning & studies; HVAC & Plumbing systems; mechanical systems (co-generation); sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings; etc. of basic complexity to meet client project requirements. Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
Site reviews:
Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications. Updates design requirements as necessary.
Technical Knowledge Management (TKM):
Contributes to firm’s TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.. Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
Other:
Performs other duties as required.
Technical Luminescence:
May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.
Skills and Abilities:
- Familiar with HVAC system design calculations like cooling and heating load calculations, Fan static pressure calculations, pump head calculations, etc.
- Moderate user of AutoCAD and Revit software.
- LEED and Energy modeling knowledge is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
