Job description:
NCR Corporation is conducting an interview for the post of Hardware Engineer.
Job duties and responsibilities:
- The Lab Technician provides installation, maintenance and repairs of equipment within the R&D Center to assure continuity of development and testing operations. The technician has ownership of hardware problems until the situation has been resolved to satisfaction. Primary services include installation, software support, network management, hardware maintenance and multi-vendor maintenance.
- The Technician will make minor repairs and replace components on equipment such as PCs, workstations, ATMs and Kiosks. The ownership of maintenance of all the hardware in the R&D Lab is the responsibility of the technician. The Technician will also assist in staging of equipment, and minor testing of equipment. The Technician may also perform required modular swaps and unit replacements or perform preventative maintenance services.
- The Technician should be well informed of all the hardware (and its variants) available and new hardware components being released. This requires understanding of each and every component in the released hardware.
- The Technician must diagnose hardware problems, make repairs, and replace components (at the module level). The profile is required to perform modular swaps and unit replacements. He has to maintain an appropriate parts inventory as well as parts record keeping.
- The Technician is required to assist the developers in simulation of errors. This may require creating of specific hardware conditions and/or jamming of devices. The technician may be required to assist in hardware related software testing.
- The Technician will also act as a System administrator. This would require installation and maintenance of server, which includes installation of software and applying of up-to-date patches. Also User management (creating users and assigning specific rights and privileges) would be the responsibility of the technician. The role would also include maintaining a regular backup of the important data on the server. The technician will be explained how to carry out these activities but would require to do so on an ongoing basis without assistance.
Physical environment:
The technician may require carrying and lifting tool kit/parts of varying weights (1- 50 lbs.) It may require bending/squatting, walking/standing/sitting for prolonged periods. He may be exposed to enclosed spaces, dust, drafts, and damp areas. It may also require assuming cramped/unusual positions, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, bending, stooping, and squatting.
Qualifications and experience requirements:
- Candidate should have a BS and/or MS degree in Electronics or Computer Science (or equivalent) or related discipline.
- The candidates should have 1-3 years of experience in a computer support system role.
- The candidate should possess strong problem-solving skills and have a good understanding of electromechanical devices. Preference would be given to candidates with a good understanding of self-service devices.
