Job description:
Cisco is hiring for the post of Mechanical Product Engineer.
As the Mechanical Product Engineer you will provide new product and ongoing engineering (including DFM/DFA) for a specific product or group of products from pre-concept commit through EOL. For new products, you will collaborate with Design Engineering (mechanical and hardware), process, test and reliability engineering to tackle problems and ensure cost avoidance and quality at FCS. For sustaining products, you will focus on cost reduction and design related yield improvements.
Job duties and responsibilities:
- Perform New Product Engineering / Product sustaining engineering
- Design for Manufacturing
- Value engineering – Engage early with Component Engineering, GSM and Hardware engineering and influence on component selection, process efficiency, and design changes
- BOM structuring and BOM risk Management.
- Design tools proficiency (ProE, Adobe Illustrator, DFMPro)
- Assessing CM and supply chain technical capability gaps
- Crafting, analyzing, and releasing product documentation
- Cost avoidance (pre-A0) and sustaining cost reduction
- Technical lifecycle management (defect reduction team participation, new component qualification, etc)
- Mfg. (Process) review
About the team and work:
You’ll be working very closely with HW Engineering, the Product Ops team, GSM, Mfg Ops and CM/EMS partners. In collaboration, you will influence on component selection, process efficiency, and design changes.
Design:
- Understands Product requirements
- Early Design Engagement
- Understands HFS/SFS
Understands mechanical and high-level hardware design concepts
- Design tools proficiency with Creo/Pro E and understanding of thermal simulations
- Understands thermal interfaces, other thermal management products, and technologies related to heat transfer
Participate in tolerance/ stack up analysis
- Manufacturing
- DFX analysis for Manufacturability
- Influence and reviews mfg capacity/ capability
Drive the refinement of product design concepts for manufacturability
Understanding of sheet metal, die casting, extrusion, and injection molding fabrication and tooling
Assess CM and supply chain technical capability gaps
- Understanding of manufacturing test flow and test environment
- Change Management
BOM structuring and ownership
- Release all product technical documentation (ECOs, Deviations, BOMs)
- Verification of CTF dimensions, FAI, TOI and assembly documents
- BOM Risk management and MCNs
Keep regulatory compliance and safety requirements up to date
Understands product shipping configurations and supports related PID set up.
Cost Avoidance
- Identify design related opportunities for cost reduction
- NPI Cost Avoidance (pre-release to production)
Participate in Circular Economy initiatives
- Cost Variance and Negotiation
- Evaluate multi-sourcing opportunities
- Knowledge of commodities used for electro-mechanical systems
Quality
- Identifies component related yield improvements
- Understands metrology requirements based on CTF dimensions/ product design
Failure Analysis for product level and component issues
Leadership and direction for sophisticated mechanical and assembly issues resolution
Defect reduction team participation
Collaborates with design, process, test and reliability engineering to solve problems
Drive and participate in design and manufacturing FMEA
Mfg repeatability & reliability check through design of experiments
