Job description:
ICF is hiring for an Analyst to work in the Flexible Load Management (FLM) Analytics practice. You will contribute to the enhancement of analytical capabilities of the team, develop subject matter expertise in the Distributed Energy Resources (i.e., energy efficiency, demand response, solar and storage to name a few) technologies and help support utilities and/or government agencies boost their FLM programs to meet the demands of the future.
As part of your role, you will have opportunities to apply your academic knowledge as well as any prior industry experience, while interacting with experts and clients in the field. Our analysts are provided with training to develop consulting skills as well as specialized skillsets in DER space, in an environment that fosters growth.
This position is available to current post-graduate level students, and recent master’s graduates in relevant fields.
Job duties and responsibilities:
- Assist with Distributed Energy Resources (DER) evaluation, potential studies, emerging technology impact studies, program design etc.
- Help with market research on various DER technologies including measure adoption, saturation, feasibility, etc.
- Assist in evaluating and benchmarking DER programs.
- Aid help in development of internal- and external-facing tools and workflows using available datasets.
- Manage and analyze datasets to meet requirements with help from subject matter experts using Excel functions, presenting analytical outputs using Power BI, R and/or Python visualization tools.
Qualifications and experience required:
- Bachelor’s Or Master’s degree in mechanical, Architectural, Building Science, Energy Management, Energy Policy and Planning, or related majors with 0-2 years of experience in the energy industry.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with some exposure to programming in R or Python, and ability to handle calculations in excel
- Strong writing and communication skills
- A passion for the energy industry, with specific interest in DERs including DER technology assessment (ex., Energy Efficiency, Demand Side Management, Demand Response, Solar, Storage, etc.)
- Rigor to learn about US energy policy and regulation especially related to DER
Preferred skills/experience:
- Related energy industry experience, including experience in DER technology assessment (e.g., EE, DR, solar and storage)
- Moderate to intermediate experience with energy modeling tools (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus)
- Moderate to intermediate programming/scripting skills in R or Python
- Understanding of economic valuation such as NPV and IRR analysis, and utility cost-effectiveness tests
- Master’s degree in relevant field is an added advantage.
