Pearson is conducting an internship for API Engineer.
Job duties and responsibilities:
- Design and implement highly scalable, interactive web applications through APIs with a focus on usability.
- Iterate rapidly on product ideas, build prototypes, and participate in proof of concepts.
- Collaborate closely with leaders and service owners to develop effective APIs.
- Understand requirements and consider broader aspects such as overall product experience, data privacy, business continuity, information security, and integration with other systems.
- Be an innovative and proactive team member, collaborating across business and engineering divisions.
- Establish best practices within the team, provide technical guidance, and set standard guidelines.
- Foster relationships across business, IT, and vendors/industry analysts to stay informed about enterprise and industry trends.
- Stay updated on industry technology trends and emerging technologies, driving their adoption within the organization.
- Promote API engineering principles and advocate for technical quality, emerging technologies, and knowledge sharing through mentoring, hackathons, and communities.
Qualifications required:
To qualify for this role, you must have:
- Proficiency in RESTful API design and development.
- Strong skills in Python, Java 8+, Spring Boot, and databases (NoSQL, Vector database, or RDBMS), with hands-on coding experience preferred.
- Good understanding of software lifecycle processes and experience writing unit test cases.
- Effective communication skills to convey solutions, ideas, and suggestions comprehensibly to the team.
- Understanding of business and organizational strategy, as well as application and non-functional aspects of systems.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to collaborate, share ideas, documentation, and best practices.
Ideally, you will also have:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, or IT.
- Experience managing end-to-end API projects and supporting peer teams with development best practices, test cases, and documentation.
- Understanding of AI and API patterns, frameworks, libraries, and tools.
- Ability for out-of-the-box thinking and individual contribution.
