Job description:
Ciena is looking for a highly skilled Signal Integrity engineer.
- The candidate will be involved in the Signal Integrity Simulations (pre and post-layout) of high-speed interfaces on Networking Platforms for our next-generation carrier-class networking products across the product line.
- This position will focus on Modeling/designing high-density I/O’s and high-speed interfaces on PCBs, packages, connectors, and probe cards with respect to parameters such as reflections, bandwidth, and crosstalk.
- You will be required to lead to creation and execution of signal/power integrity simulation plans.
- You will also be called on to support the debugging of any subsequent issues over the life of the product.
- You will also be required to Develop test procedures for Signal Integrity testing. Maintaining the relevant test equipment will be another aspect of your job profile.
- The candidate will be expected to provide a basic assessment of his/her own work including effort estimation, status reporting, etc. The candidate will get enough exposure for continuous learning and developing skills in the related domain.
Job duties and responsibilities:
As an HW SI engineer, you would be involved in the following:
- Pre-layout simulations of all the high-speed interfaces that includes, DDR4, PCIe Gen3/4, USB and SERDES interfaces uptp 112GHz.
- Modelling different components on board including driver, receiver, connectors, passive components and vias, etc.
- Review the layout from SI perspective and work with the CAD team to make things better.
- Run post-layout simulations to check and confirm the compliance of all the critical interfaces.
- Perform electrical testing on the relevant interfaces once the board arrives to check the compliance to corresponding standards and identify/analyze differences between simulation results and test results.
- Attend meetings, report progress, and take technical leadership to debug the issues.
- Help investigate and collect information to resolve process or design issues found in a current design or in previous designs.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers hired into the team who may be tasked to perform some of the above duties.
- Assumes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and experience required:
- Bachelors/Master of Engineering in Computer Science
- Conversant with all the required simulation/modelling tools softwares.
- Use of standard bench-level test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other supporting equipment
- Strong hardware analysis, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Understanding of HW interfaces/protocols such as I2C, SPI, USB, UART, SFI, XFI, etc.
- Ability to debug complex issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of using software tools for analysis, development, testing, and debug
